The goal of the Source Software Delivery System(zbo) is to make it possible for software written in any language to be converted easily into a distributed application that can be downloaded quickly and run as quickly as the client's hardware would allow.

The Source Software Delivery System is not the only answer for sending distributed applications over the net. For small corporate networks connected by fast ethernet, it probably makes more sense to use a distributed application server model; especially if the company has the resources and the technical expertise to develop a backend that gives the user the experience that the app actually resides on his machine.

But for a small company that wishes to make his game available to thousands of users who reside half a world away with their Pentium 600, UltraSCSI, 32 Mb grahic card, 56K modem (?) computer; zbo may make more sense because it allows them to take advantage of their local hardware resources, without making as many demands on the server. (The server will may be require users be connected to the server for the app to run, but calculations and data verification can run on the client side.)

This web site includes a working version of the SSDS system for Windows 98/ 2000. Go to the download page to download the compiler, Netscape plugin, and OpenGL dll. Once all of the system's components have been installed, you can go to the applications page to see applications be downloaded, decompressed (unzipped), translated, compiled, linked, and executed. You will see that the SSDS system is a much faster way of downloading applications over the internet.

Hopefully, the zbo/Ebo system will grow. I think that it is the next logical step in the Open source/ Distributed application movement. It is not the only answer; but hopefully, it will fill a need. I'm looking for companies who have the expertise in growing technologies and setting standards to take over this process and take zbo/Ebo to the next level.
